An
“Udder Bag” is a crocheted bag which was inspired by pictures (on a website I
found through Pinterest) of a
“Four partition Colorful bag” .
The website is in a language other than English, so I looked at the pictures
and started crocheting. As I was putting the bag together, I showed it to my
husband, who promptly stated “It looks like a sweater for a cow’s udder.” And,
voila!! The Udder Bag!
I have made 3 so far. The first one was
similar to the “four partition” bag on the website. I didn’t bother to add the
buttons.
The second bag I made for Em, my 7 (now
8) year old granddaughter. I used the front-post double crochet stitch to
create a tighter stitch. She loves it!!
Then I decided I needed a bag with a
few more little compartments for those things that get lost in my purse all the
time and it could also match my newest water bottle carrier. Gotta love color
coordination!! I also needed a tighter crochet stitch so pens and keys and
stuff wouldn’t keep poking out of the bag. The front-post double crochet stitch
worked great for my bag as well as Em’s
I created a thin kindle sized pocket, one
for my phone, and several “fingers” for my e-cigarettes. The design still isn’t
quite to my satisfaction. I made the bottoms of the pockets square and tried
putting plastic canvas in them – that didn’t work. And, I’ll be unraveling the
handles and moving them so they are located over the seams. Hopefully that will
give the bag a bit more stability. I haven’t yet figured out what to do about
the sagging Kindle pocket.
Once I’m happy with the design, I will
be offering custom made Udder Bags in my ETSY shop - The Art & Crafts Cupboard.
